Mikaela Pace - Biography

Mikaela Pace is a Native-American soprano born and raised in Carrollton, TX. She is currently based in Austin, TX. She is classically trained and a well sought-after voice teacher with over 40 private voice students.

 

Mikaela has sung many operatic roles including Suor Osmina in Puccini's Suor Angelica (Atchley Opera), Tonina in Scarlatti's Prima la musica e poi le parole, Lady Ella in Gilbert & Sullivan's Patience (Baylor Opera Theatre), Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro (Matador Opera Workshop), Lauretta in Puccini's Gianni Schicchi, Laurie Moss in Copland's The Tender Land (Baylor Opera Theatre), Rose Maurant in Weill's Street Scene, Contemptus Mundi in Hildegard's Ordo Virtutum, Second Woman in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Mrs. Gobineau in Menotti's The Medium (Texas Tech Opera Theatre), as well as covering the role of Kate in Gilbert & Sullivan's Yeomen of the Guard (Gilbert & Sullivan Austin).​

As a versatile artist, Mikaela has an equal passion for both classical and musical theatre repertoire. Her musical theatre role credits include Lily in The Secret Garden (Georgetown Palace Theatre, Sister in Damn Yankees (Entr'acte), Ghost of Christmas Past in A Christmas Carol (Georgetown Palace Theatre), Maria in West Side Story (Wild Imaginings), Margo Crawford (Waco Civic Theatre), and covering the role of Johanna in Sweeney Todd (Red River Lyric Opera. She has been cast in ensemble roles in Twisted (Speedrun Studio), The Little Mermaid (Lubbock Moonlight Musicals), 9 to 5 (Lubbock Community Theatre), Music Man (Lubbock Moonlight Musicals), and Grease (Moonlight on Broadway).

Ms. Pace has participated in multiple voice competitions and received generous scholarship awards. This past year, she was a recipient of the Gilbert & Sullivan Austin Libby Weed Scholarship (2025) by Gilbert & Sullivan Austin. In 2023, she participated with Baylor Opera Theatre in the Robert Hansen Collegiate Opera Scenes Competition and placed 1st in Opera Division II.  In 2022, she was a semi-finalist in the American Pops Orchestra Next Gen Competition. In the 2021 season of the John Alexander Vocal Competition, she was a finalist in both the Opera Student Artist and Musical Theatre Student Artist Categories. Mikaela is also the 2nd recipient of the Melody Claire Hall Voice Scholarship (2018). She had the gracious opportunity to open the second act in the SoCo Women's Chorus concert at Martin Luther Cathedral in Austin, TX.

Mikaela also enjoys performing in new music projects. Past new music credits include portraying the role of Daisy in The Butterfly - a new mini chamber opera by Keith Allegretti and Amy Herman premiering in the 2025 Here Be Monsters Festival, portraying the role of Maid in a workshop scene of Stop Hitting Yourself (later changed to Wildman in the Palace) by Peter Stopschinski at the 2024 Here Be Monsters Festival, soprano chorus for an opera workshop called Un Cuento de Luces y Sombras by Carlos Alberto Cordero Garcia, and her role as 20 yr old in a new mini opera called "An Artist's Regrets" by Nell Clowder and Linda Nenno.

When Mikaela is not portraying a role in a production, she is actively participating in classical and musical theatre concerts and church gigs. She is a guest singer with ATX Musical Theatre's pop-up concerts. She is a sub-singer for multiple church choirs in the Austin area. Currently, she is partnering up with Austin Chamber Ensemble programing A Concert Celebrating Native American Heritage Month in November.

Mikaela received her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance (2023) at Baylor University in Waco, TX where she studied under Dr. Kimberly Monzón. Ms. Pace also received her Bachelor of Music Performance - Voice degree (2021) at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX where she studied under Dr. Alice-Anne Light and Lissette Jimenez.
